The ranking results reported by AWR depend on the search definition selected for the Yahoo search engine.

A Yahoo search engine can be defined to either track ranking positions from the regular web search page (All) or from a dedicated vertical (Images, Videos, or News).

In AWR, the following search options are available for Yahoo:

  • Yahoo: this is the Organic version of the search engine. When selecting this search type, only the Organic listings originating from Desktop searches performed on regular Yahoo search pages are being considered. The other types of results listed on Yahoo SERPs are being ignored when computing the reported ranking positions.

  • Yahoo Mobile: this is the Organic version of the search engine but for Organic results originating from Mobile searches. Same as for the Desktop version, the reported ranking positions are computed considering only the Organic listings.

  • Yahoo Universal: with this version, all types of search results (except the Sponsored ones) from regular Desktop SERPs are being considered. With the Universal search engine, the URLs from Yahoo SERPs on which a searcher can click are considered as competing websites and counted when computing the reported ranking positions.

  • Yahoo Organic and Local: with this version, both the Organic and Local listings displayed on regular Desktop search pages are being considered when computing the reported ranking positions.

  • Yahoo Sponsored Results: as its name suggests, only the Sponsored results (pages from advertisers who pay to appear in Yahoo results) appearing in regular Desktop search pages are being considered when computing the reported ranking positions.

Yahoo Images: when this version is tracked the ranking positions of the Images results listed on the Desktop Images search vertical are being reported.

Yahoo News: with this version, the news-related articles listed on the Desktop News search vertical are being reported.

Yahoo Video: when tracking this version, the ranking positions of the Videos listed on the Desktop Video search vertical are being reported.

For Yahoo, Yahoo Organic and Local, and Yahoo Universal it is recommended to add as an alias the Yahoo listing business name (the name of the business as defined in your Yahoo Local account) to capture all your Local rankings.

Normally, AWR retrieves, based on the actual URL each business listing has, the local positions of your website without any additional settings on your part.

However, sometimes among the Yahoo Local results, your website may be listed with its business name (the one defined in your Yahoo Local account) instead of an URL.

In this case, so AWR can find a match between the website being tracked and the Yahoo Local listings, and then correctly report the local positions, the business name needs to be added as a custom value alias to the projects where you are tracking Yahoo, Yahoo Organic and Local or Yahoo Universal.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

💡 Quick tip: The business name needs to be inserted as an alias exactly as defined in your Yahoo Local account. If multiple business names are defined for your website they all need to be added to the project.

For local results, AWR's matching mechanism works as follows:

  • When the local result lists both the website URL and the business name, then the match will be made based on the website URL (default website alias) and the URL listed will be reported as ranking.

  • When the local result lists only the business name, then the match will be made based on the custom aliases (the name of the business inserted as custom alias) and the business name will be the one reported as ranking.

The business name can be either inserted when adding a new search engine to the project:

Or later on, from the Project's settings:
