As its name suggests, the SERP Movements feature is designed to track changes in position for the set of targeted keywords, providing insights into which organic results and/or SERP features have impacted your rankings.

How it works

For keywords where a change in position is recorded between two selected ranking updates, you can see exactly what shifts have occurred relative to your (or a competitor’s) website’s position. This allows you to assess if any new organic results or SERP features caused your ranking to drop or if your website has pushed others down the page.

For instance, if your website’s 1st organic position was pushed down the page by a local pack, the SERP Movements wizard will reveal the specific local results or other search elements that caused this shift.

Where to access the SERP Movements

To access the SERP Movements go to Ranking > Keywords and click on the ranking position of the keyword you want to analyze.

This will open the URL changes in SERP wizard showing:

  • The results that moved ahead of your website (those that outranked you).

  • The results that your website surpassed (those you pushed below).

  • Details on the SERP features owned by each search result, their Pixel Position, and whether they appear above or below the fold - or if they shifted between these positions.

For an extended view, click on View more details, which will redirect you to the Top Sites section, where you can see all the top results for the selected keyword.

Additionally, clicking on the View SERP button will open the HTML SERP file, providing a snapshot of the ranking page.

Exporting SERP Movements data

You can export the URL changes data for further analysis by:

  • Downloading it as a CSV or XLS file.

  • Uploading it to Drive as a Google Sheet for easy sharing and collaboration.

By leveraging the SERP Movements feature, you can see how competitors and SERP features affect your rankings, helping you make informed decisions to boost your visibility and performance in search results.
