By leveraging the Alerts feature in Advanced Web Ranking, you can effortlessly track keyword ranking and visibility changes on the SERPs, ensuring you never miss critical updates to your tracked keywords. This also makes the reporting process smoother, as you can easily share notifications with your team, manager, or clients.
Some of the most common scenarios you want to keep an eye on are:
Changes in ranking performance: Identify keywords where your optimization efforts have yielded positive results, as well as those that have declined and require further attention.
First Page ranking opportunities: Utilize SERP features triggers to discover new keywords that have the potential to rank on the first page.
Visibility trends: Stay updated on the overall evolution of visibility across one or multiple search markets.
Pixel Position shifts: Get notified when keywords move above/below the fold or drop out of display, so you can quickly tackle visibility issues and keep keywords in prominent positions on SERPs.

How to set up an alert
You can create a new alert by heading to the Alerts section and clicking the “Add alert” button.
Within the wizard, you have multiple options to customize the alert according to your needs.
Scope
First, you need to decide whether to create the alert for all projects, a group of projects sharing the same tag or for custom project(s) that you can select individually from the list. Your choice will determine the level of customization for the alert you are about to set up.
Global performance alerts can be set for all projects, for those sharing the same tag, and for at least two custom-selected projects. Such alerts can be configured to trigger on changes in any Visibility Evolution, Ranking Distribution, or Ranking Comparison metric. Global alerts are checked with each new ranking update that takes place for the selected projects.
Project-level alerts offer more advanced customization, allowing you to fine-tune the input data. You can select the keywords, the search engines, and the website based on which the alert's condition is verified.
In addition to Visibility Evolution, Ranking Distribution, and Ranking Comparison metrics, project-level alerts can be triggered based on Position changes or specific SERP Features, such as their presence or absence on the search results page.
Similar to global performance alerts, a project-level alert is checked with every completed ranking update. If the alert’s condition is met, a notification is triggered with the same frequency as the ranking update.
When calculating the threshold set as the alert’s condition, the ranking data from the most recent update is compared to the data from the previous update.
Segment
When setting up a project-level alert, you have the flexibility to segment the input data by selecting specific keywords, search engine(s), the website, or even a particular URL to monitor when checking the alert's condition. This ensures that the alerts are tailored to your exact needs.
You can create the alert for all targeted keywords, one or more keyword groups, or narrow it down to specific high-value keywords that matter most to your strategy.
If you're tracking multiple search engines, you have the option to choose which one to be notified about, or you can include several search engines in a single alert for broader insights.
You can opt to receive notifications about ranking changes for your main tracked website, a competitor's website, or narrow the alert down to a specific URL within the selected website.
Trigger
Next, you have to choose a metric, the condition, and the threshold that will trigger the alert.
The alerts can check and trigger for six metric categories:
Ranking Position: By keeping an eye on ranking changes for your keywords, you can easily show your clients the positive outcomes of your efforts, quickly tackle any drops in rankings, and stay updated on the latest trends effortlessly.
SERP features: Monitoring the performance of SERP features helps you understand how well your SEO strategies are working. You can see where your competitors are ranking higher than you, find out which types of search results give you the most visibility, and discover areas where you can improve.
Pixel Position: Tracking Pixel Position shifts helps you understand how changes in your keywords' vertical position relative to the top of the SERP impact your visibility. This allows you to quickly identify when keywords drop out of view, move above the fold, or fall below it, so you can take immediate action to optimize your strategy.
Visibility Evolution: By tracking metrics like Visibility Percent, Click Share, and Estimated Visits, you can easily see what’s working in your search strategy and what isn’t. These insights help you understand how your website's visibility changes with seasonal trends or algorithm updates, allowing you to make smart adjustments for better results.
Ranking Distribution: You can use aggregated metrics like Ranked, Not Ranked, First Place, Top 5, and Top 10 to see how your keywords are distributed across different ranking positions. Keeping an eye on your keywords and their rankings in search results can show you how well your website does on desktop compared to mobile or across various search markets, helping you identify which market is more profitable for your business.
Ranking Comparison: Leverage aggregated metrics like "On First Page," "Moved Up or Down," "Added," and "Dropped" to evaluate how your keywords are performing based on your selected criteria. This allows you to identify which keywords are performing well, which have improved, and which dropped in rankings.
Recipients
After the trigger is set, choose who should receive notifications when the alert triggers. The alert notifications can be sent to any email address. Additionally, if you previously synced your AWR account with Slack, you have the option to receive the alert notifications directly to your Slack channel.
The alerts can be configured only by the account owner or by an Administrator user type.
Alert Details
Finally, name the alert so you can easily identify it and activate it.
There are two additional options that you can opt for:
Disable alert after first incident: The alert is turned off following its first trigger.
Enable alert unicity check: Alert is triggered only when new inputs are found with every new update.
Once you're done with the settings, create the alert.
