The Filter by Sidebar feature is a filtering bar that may appear on the left-hand side in SERPs returned by Google as a response to e-commerce-related queries. By enabling search engine users to refine results based on criteria such as material, season, size, style, color, and more, this feature ensures tailored product discovery.

Users can easily toggle the sidebar on or off, enhancing their shopping journey with more personalized search results.

How to identify keywords that triggered the “Filter by Sidebar” feature

In Advanced Web Ranking, you can track the “Filter by Sidebar” appearance in SERPs using the Google Universal search engine, both for desktop and mobile search results. Such a search engine can be added for monitoring from the Project Settings> Search Engines section.

💡When monitoring a Universal search engine, the positions of Organic entries alongside URLs from Local 3-pack, Featured Snippets, People Also Ask, Aggregator Units, Images, and other result types found in Google SERPs will be reported as ranking. For more insights on Google's search preferences in AWR, please check out this dedicated article.

To identify keywords that have triggered the “Filter by Sidebar” feature and monitor their performance effectively, you can use the SERP Features filter within the Ranking > Keywords report.

The SERP Features column displays the types of search results present on Google pages for each keyword, making it easy to identify the presence of “Filter by Sidebar” and other SERP Features.

Since the "Filter by Sidebar" functions as a tool for refining search queries, it doesn't contain any external URLs. Therefore, no position placeholder is allocated to it, and its presence doesn't influence the ranking position value of other search results listed on the SERP. Its presence among the search results is only visually indicated in both the Ranking > Keywords and the Top Sites reports.
