Target URL tracking makes it easy to monitor if your preferred landing pages match the current URLs your keywords are ranking in SERPs.
It also highlights when your chosen target URLs differ from the ranking pages, helping you identify opportunities for further optimization to attain better visibility and performance in search results.
How to assign Target URLs
You have a few ways to set up Target URLs for your keywords, as follows:
1. From the Ranking > Keywords section
Select the keyword you want to assign a Target URL to, then from the Manage drop-down menu select Add Target URL.
In the opened wizard, choose Page (for URLs within your project’s structure) or Custom (for any other URL). Enter the desired URL(s) and click Save.
You can assign one or multiple Target URLs for each keyword.
Once you save the target URL(s), in the status column you will see whether the URL is in target or not for the search engines you tracking in your project.
2. When adding keywords
While keywords are uploaded to the project via the Add Keywords manager, you’ll see an option to Add Target URLs to your keywords. Enabling this automatically assigns the selected Target URLs to the keywords you’re adding.
This option can also be used to add Target URLs in bulk, for both new and existing keywords. When uploading new keywords, both the keywords and their Target URLs will be added. For existing keywords, only the preferred Target URLs will be added.
3. From Keyword Settings
Go to Project Settings > Keywords section, select the keyword, and click Manage > Add Target URL to assign the desired landing pages.
Where to check the Target URL status
Once your Target URLs are set, you can verify their status in the following sections:
1. Ranking > Keywords
Add the Target URL column to your report to see which keywords have assigned any preferred URLs and whether the ranking URLs match your Target URL.
2. Visibility > Landing Pages
Use the Keywords in Target column in the Visibility> Landing Pages section to see the keywords each page has been set as the target URL. This column also shows whether the targeted URL matches or not the current ranking page.
Edit or delete Target URLs
You can easily manage the target URLs either from:
1. Ranking > Keywords
Select the keyword and click Manage > Edit Target URL, or click directly on the status icon in the Target URL column.
Both options will open the editor where you can delete the existing target URLs or add new ones.
2. Keyword Settings
Use the Manage > Edit Target URL option to open the editor, or click the x icon to remove a Target URL.
